Scheme for the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking (Ujjwala)
The Ministry of Women and Child Development started a comprehensive scheme named 'Ujjwala' from December, 2007 for the prevention of trafficking. The implementation of this scheme is mainly being done through NGOs. Prevention of trafficking, rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration and repatriation of victims are the five components of the scheme. Some of the provisions of this scheme are as follows:
1. Formation of Community Vigilance Teams, Adolescent Groups, Information, Education, Communication Organizing material preparation workshops.
2. Safeguarding trafficking victims from the site of exploitation.
3. Safe shelter, basic facilities, medical care, legal aid to the victims. To rehabilitate them by providing facilities like vocational training and income earning activities.
4. Reuniting the victim with his/her family/society
5. In repatriating victims brought from other countries for the purpose of trafficking to help.
