Why in discussion?
Recent excavations carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India at Gottiprolu in Andhra Pradesh indicate its prehistoric trading center, as well as excavated brick structures and Vishnu statues dating back 2000 years .
Here in the first phase of excavation done by the Archaeological Survey of India, there mains of a huge settlement surrounded by a brick structure have been found. Among many other antiquities found in excavations, a life size of Vishnu Contains idols and different types of utensils.
Features of Vishnu Murti It is 2 meters long and stands on a pedestal.There is a chakra in one hand.
In the other hand is a conch.
The third hand is in the posture of boon.
The fourth hand is on the cut.
Guessed this by looking at the ornate headgear and sacred thread It is being said that it is probably related to the Pallava period.
Gottiprolu is situated on the right bank of a tributary of Swarnamukhi, about 17 km east of Nayudupet and 80 km from Tirupati and Nellore.Detailed tropical studies and drone images have helped identify an ancient settlement surrounded by a fort. The fortifications are quite evident on the eastern and southern side of the settlement.In this excavation, a structure made of paved bricks has been found, which is 75 meters.It is longer, about 3.40 meters wide and about 2 meters high. A
rectangular tank made of bricks has also been found in the excavation.The size of the bricks is 43-48 cm. which is being compared withthe Satavahana /Ikshvaku period formations of Krishna Valley i.e. Amaravati and Nagarjunakonda. Based on the size of the bricks and other discoveries, they can be considered between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.In ancient times, the people of this region had given prominence to establish two fortified towns at a distance of 15 km keeping in mind the proximity to sea, river and lake (Pulicut) for ease of trade.
