Stem Cells
Such cells, which have the ability to develop into the cell of any organs of the body, are called stem cells.
Such characteristics are found in stem cells that these cells keep on increasing their number for a long time by division.
There are two types of columnar cells:
(a) Stem cells of embryos
(b) Stem cells of adults.
They are divided into three parts on the basis of use.
- Totipotent: All cells of the body including the placenta can be cultured from totipotent Stem cells. The cells produced after the first division of the fertilized egg are called totipotent Stem cells.
- Pluripotent: These stem cells developed four days after fertilization all other cells of the body except the placenta can be cultured.
- Multipotent: By this, only a few cells grow. Hence it is also called as limited useful Stem Cell .
