Birsa Munda
Birsa Munda was a tribal leader of Chota Nagpur and he fight against the British against land acquisition.
• They forced the colonial authorities to enact laws to protect the land rights of the tribes.He started the Birsait sect, which was an English Christian This was to stop the conversion process of the missionaries.
• He also won the support of the Munda and Oraon tribal communities.
Due to his popularity, he is knownas 'Dharti Abba'.
• He started a movement called Ulgulan, under which he gathered tribals against the land acquisition system being imposed by the British.
• He opposed superstition, animal atrocities, drinking and forced labor system.
• In 1908, the Chota Nagpur Tenancy Act was passed,under which the acquisition of tribal lands by non-tribals was prohibited.
