Sadler University Commission (1917-19)
In the year 1917, the government constituted a commission under the chairmanship of Dr. M E Sadler, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds, whose task was to study the problems of the University of Calcutta and report it to the government. Although this commission was affiliated only with the University of Calcutta,but its recommendations were also true in relation to other universities of India. This commission made an in-depth study of the education system from primary to university level. If education is to be improved, then for this the level of secondary education has to be improved first.The recommendations of this commission were as follows:
School education should be of 12 years. Students should not after high school, but after higher secondary examination should take admission in the university for the three-year course. This should be done as follows
By preparing the students for the university level.
Three years for graduation after higher secondary education There should be a system of education.
Those students who are not ready to go for university education, they will be given Level education should be given.Separate Boards of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education should be constituted for the administration and control of secondary and higher secondary education. There should be no rigidity while making rules related to universities.
