INSURGENCY IN NORTH EAST
The North-East is a heterogeneous society with cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious diversity. The struggle existing here can be seen in many forms, such as the movement autonomy towards foreigners and immigrants. Demand for, caste integration and opposition to the so-called imposed Indianness etc. The main reasons behind the creation of an atmosphere of insurgency and extremism in most of the north eastern states, dissatisfaction and opportunities for foreign powers to become active there, can be counted mainly three reasons: identity crisis, feeling of in security and lack of development. There is a lot of ethnic and linguistic diversity in the Northeast.
There are about hundreds of Scheduled Tribes and different dialects are spoken here and all these tribes struggle with each other to protect their cultural and linguistic identity. At the same time, infiltration from neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal and increase in the number of refugees has created economic, cultural and social tension here which has emerged as a cause of violence and conflict. There is a view that the dominance of Nepalese has increased in Sikkim,in Tripura people of Bangladeshi origin also have a role in the government. Assam also has a large number of Hindi-speakers and Bangladesh . Their interference in their land and the availability of cheap labor has affected the socio-economic life of the local people. This existential crisis has strengthened their 'feeling of insecurity'. The North east region is also a very rich region in terms of natural resources and biodiversity. There is ample stock of natural vegetable oil, medicine, bamboo and other useful bio-resources. In literacy also many states are ahead of other states of the country, but this area has lagged behind in the pace of development. Simultaneously, due to illegal immigrants, the pressure on resources has increased and the availability of opportunities for the local community has been limited. As a result, there is a demand for their removal from here along with violent activities by the local community. The following reasons can be seen behind their being backward in development, lack of necessary infrastructural facilities for development, geographical distance from other parts of the country, not enough attention of the government for many years, administrative a pathy, local resources here.to be used in the main land of India etc. But now to deal with the problem of development and extremism respectively, the formation of the Northeast Ministry, military action and peace talks with the extremist elements are part of the government's strategy. Here this regional cultural existential crisis has played a role in the formation of many separatist, extremist organizations and for this reason they have also got the support of the local people, which has given their situation the form of wide spread violent conflict, such as Assam Republic in Assam. Council, AASU, ULFA: 'National Socialist Council of Nagaland' (NSCN) in Nagaland and Manipur and also several armed forces in Mizoram
factions are active. Many of these groups have been banned by the government. Peace talks are on with many. It may be noted that the deadly attack by the NSCN-IM faction on the Indian military force in Manipur posed a serious challenge to the situation here and to the internal security of the country. Later, in retaliation, the hideouts of these insurgent groups were destroyed by the Indian Army by entering the Myanmar border, which was called 'Hot Pursuit' Government efforts to solve the problem of Northeast.
