Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY)
Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) was launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development for pregnant and lactating women. Its objective is to compensate for wage loss during child birth and child care, as well as to provide favorable conditions to ensure safe delivery and to promote best practices of nutrition and feeding of infants and young children. The scheme was launched in October 2010 on a pilot basis.
The following targets have been ensured under the scheme:
1. To promote appropriate practices, care and institutional service during the period of pregnancy, child birth and lactation.
2. Follow up on nutrition and feeding practices for infants and young children To encourage women.
3. To contribute in creating a conducive environment for adopting the above practices by providing cash incentives to pregnant and lactating mothers to improve their health and nutrition.This scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme for which financial assistance is provided to the state government in the form of grant-in-aid. All pregnant women of 19 years of age or above are eligible to get benefits under this scheme for the first two live births. It is worth noting that women who get maternity leave are not eligible for the benefits of this scheme . Cash transfer under the scheme is subject to the following conditions
1. The first cash transfer of Rs. 1.500 (in 6 months. of pregnancy) will be done subject to the following conditions:
(i) Registration in Anganwadi center within four months of conception
(ii) attending at least one antenatal care session and taking IFA tablets and tetanus vaccination.
(iii) Attend at least one counseling session at the Aganwadi Center or Health Centre.
2.Second transfer of Rs. 1500 (to be done after 3 months of delivery only if
(1) The birth of the child has been registered.
(ii) the child has been given OPV or BCG vaccine at the time of birth,at six weeks and again at 10 weeks of age.
(iii) The mother has attended at least two physical development monitoring sessions within three months of delivery.
3. Third transfer of Rs.1,000 (6 months after delivery) is subject to the following conditions:
(i) Exclusive breast feeding for six months and then introducing complementary feeding.
(ii) the child has been given a dose of OPV and a third dose of DPT has been administered.
(iii) The mother has attended two counseling sessions on physical development monitoring andinfant and child nutrition between the third and sixth month of delivery.
