Non-Aligned Movement
The current international perspective i.e. the independence of foreign policy in the context of the non-aligned nations in the world after the Cold War is based on the principle that this freedom should be available to all the nations in the world, while other nations do not accept this principle and have their own independence. and in doing so they do not care for the independence of their allies. Thus non-alignment or non-alignment is a democratic principle of world politics and factionalism is a feudalistic principle. Non-alignment as a democratic principle can be said to be one such principle which has expanded the principle of secularism in international politics. If we look from the historical perspective, it will be known that the importance of foreign policy independence in the reciprocal principle of sovereignty was different from the importance of foreign policy independence related to non-alignment. That difference is based on the fact that other than the non-aligned states, the independent states have been using their foreign policy independence only in favor of their private national interest, but the use of non-alignment is largely away from the private national interest, that is, in the interest of international peace. is done. Many new nations have adopted non-alignment as the basis of their sovereignty and have been gradually introducing more and more independence in the conduct of their foreign policy. Not only this, there were some countries which were first adopting the policy of factionalism and later abandoned that policy.
Promoting the principle of sovereignty in the theory of non-alignment - Non-alignment has promoted the principle of sovereignty in one way but in another way has also reduced the importance of that principle. But the contribution of non-alignment has been that by emphasizing the need for international peace, it has justified the fact that it is necessary to impose some restrictions on sovereignty by changing the reciprocal principle of sovereignty. In other words, it can be said that where earlier sovereignty was considered unlimited, it should now be limited in the interest of international peace. Non-alignment emphasizes on the one hand that all nations should adopt an independent foreign policy and on the other hand that the freedom of foreign policy should be used in the interest of world peace. In this way, non-alignment has given a new task to the sovereignty which is much broader than the task of protecting the narrow national interest earlier.Non-alignment is based on the belief that if a peaceful international order is established, then the national interests of different countries can be achieved on their own.The characteristic of non-alignment is not that it has considered peace as necessary for economic progress, but its main feature is that economic development through peace can be meaningful only as long as the world is saved from the danger of nuclear war.
Jawaharlal Nehru understood these features of non-alignment very well and on this basis
But made his belief that non-alignment is not only a means of achievement of national interest but also a means to establish world peace. In fact, we can call non-alignment as a means only in the context of international peace. When used for the national interest, non-alignment is called a policy, which when used in the interest of world peace, can be called a means of non-alignment. if we consider the end of colonialism and economic self-reliance and political stability asthe objective of non-alignment, then it will mean that in the near future after achieving these objectives, there will be no utility of non-alignment. Therefore, it is necessary that the principle of non-alignment should be re-formulated in such a way that in future, when all the nations start following a completely independent foreign policy, then even when there is no independent nation, the utility of non-alignment remains. The future of non-alignment depends on the extent to which it should strive for its continued utility out of then arrow circle of national interest to establish a world peaceful environment and help in resolving international conflicts peacefully.
Non-alignment and disarmament - By understanding the above talks about non-alignment,it will become clear that how deeply non-alignment is related to disarmament and international organization, because only through disarmament and international organization,non-alignment can nurture world peace. Non-alignment supports all those actions which are likely to reduce international tension and at the same time encourages all those institutions. Which tries to settle international disputes peacefully. Therefore, both supporting disarmament efforts and believing in the usefulness of the United Nations areas important parts of the principle of non-alignment as independence of foreign policy. Inthis regard, it is also worth noting that like other non-aligned conferences, the Colombo Summit emphasized that neither world peace nor economic development is possible without effective steps towards disarmament.
