Meenakshi Temple
Meenakshi Amman Temple is one of the oldest temples in India. Meenakshi Temple has been named one of the wonders of the world for its stunning architecture.
There are actually two temple buildings in this huge temple complex - one dedicated to Shiva in the form of Sundareswarar and the other to his wife in the form of Goddess Meenakshi. Often the whole complex is called Meenakshi Temple.
Every place in the temple is full of vaults, reefs, pillars, and other figures.Another major attraction of this temple is the huge lake, which is a little different from the main temple.
There are stairs all around it and there are also pillared door pavilions. This lake was used for ritual bathing. This temple had a special significance in the life of South Indians. It was an integral part of their social and economic life.
• In this period, the temple was constructed keeping in mind the two sides of the revered deity-spiritual and worldly. In the Madura architectural style, neither any new construction method has been adopted nor any new architectural development has taken place. In this, in the beginning, a central temple and open courtyard were built around it. With the aggravation of the need, pillared pavilions covered by its four flat roofs were built and except for some places, rectangular defenses enclosing these constructions and one to four entrances for entry were made in the form of high gopurams. In this way, there are examples of making up to seven types, one after the other, respectively.
