State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA)
As per the provisions given in Chapter III of the Diaster Manegement Act, every State Government shall establish State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) or a unit before it under a different name with the Chief Minister as the Chairman. In the case of other Union Territories, the Lieutenant Governor or Administrator shall be the Chairperson of that Authority. In the case of the Union Territory of Delhi, the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister shall be the Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively of the State Authority. In a Union territory having a Legislative Assembly other than the Union territory of Delhi, the authority established under this clause shall be headed by the Chief Minister. MDMA will decide the policies and plans for the DM in the state. It will inter-alia approve the state plan as per the guidelines laid down by the NDMA, coordinate the implementation of the state plan, recommend the arrangement of funds for mitigation and preparedness measures and review the development plans of different departments of the state, To ensure integration of prevention, preparedness and mitigation measures.
The State Government will constitute an Executive Committee (SEC) toassist the SDMA in the performance of its functions. The SEC will be headed by the Chief Secretary to the State Government. The SEC will coordinate and monitor the implementation of the National Policy, the National Plan and the State Plan. NDMA will give information on different aspects of SEC, DM.
