Malimath Committee
• The Malimath Committee on Reform of the Criminal Justice System was constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2000.
• The committee submitted its report in 2003 and in this the committee made a total of 158 suggestions related to punishments etc. in various criminal cases.
• But the recommendations have not been implemented so far but now the Central Government is reconsidering the report of the Malimath Committee.
Its major recommendations include bringing a federal law to deal with inter-state crimes, making provision for life imprisonment for rapists, keeping crimes related to atrocities on women in the category of bailable offenses and setting up of a National Police Commission. recommendations are included.and
• Other recommendations include stringent punishment for false registration of cases, constitution of National Judicial Commission and amending Article 124 to facilitate removal of judges.
