Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY)
Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana is a rural infrastructure scheme launched by the Central Government (announced in Budget 2015-16). The scheme is likely to help in implementing the much awaited reforms in rural areas. Under the scheme, transmission and distribution infrastructure will be strengthened by arranging separate feeders for rural households and agricultural operations so that 24 hours electricity can be provided to rural households and agricultural consumers. Even before this, Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana, which was started for the supplyof electricity to rural areas, has been included in the new scheme.
Under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana, the work of 'Micro and Off Grid Distribution Network and Rural Electrification' has already been done.A total investment of 43 thousand 33 crores is required for this scheme, out of which the Government of India (for the entire period of the scheme) will give 33 thousand 4 hundred53 crores assistance. All discoms including private discoms and state power departments will beeligible for financial assistance under this scheme. The DISCOMs will give priority to strengthening rural infrastructural works keeping in view the specific network requirement and prepare detailed project reports for the projects covered under the scheme. Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) will be the nodal agency for implementing this scheme, which will submit monthly progress report related to the scheme to the Ministry of Power and Central Electricity Authority. A Monitoring Committee headed by the Energy Secretary will approve the projects under the scheme and monitor their implementation.
Duration of the plan: The plan will be completed within a period of 24 months from the date of issue of letter for work. The grant share of the scheme is up to 60 per cent (up to 75 per cent o achieving the recommended achievement) for states other than specific category states and 85 percent (up to 90 per cent on achieving the recommended achievement) for specific category states. noteworthy that all the northeastern states including Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are included in the Special Category States.
