Bhikhu Commission
Bhikhu Commission In 2016, the central government constituted a three-member commission to integrate the denotified and nomadic tribes into the mainstream of society. Ramji Bhikhu, a former general secretary of the RSS in Maharashtra, was made the chairman of the National Commission for Denotified and Nomadic Tribes and Shravan Singh Rathore asits secretary. The commission has been constituted for a period of three years from the date of gazetted notification or appointment of the Chairman, i.e. up to January 2018. The terms of reference of this commission include preparation of a state-wise list of castes belonging to the denotified and nomadic tribes and to suggest appropriate measures to be taken by the Central Government or the State Government for the commissioned and nomadictribes. Earlier, the Central Government had constituted the commission for the first time in 2003,. the UPA government, expressing dissatisfaction with its work, issued a notification for it again in 2005.The then commission chairman Balkrishna Renke had recommended several concessions along with reservation for nomadic and nomadic tribes. But they were not implemented. Experts believe that hundreds of such tribes exist inthe country. He was considered a born criminal until 1952. The Criminal Tribes Act, 1871 was enacted for the first timein 1871 during the British rule. After independence, this law was abolished in 1952, but they could not be included in the mainstream.
