India-EU Relations
• India-EU cooperation is wide in the areas of foreign policy, security issues,trade, investment, economic cooperation, sustainable development, research and innovation etc. Between India and the European Union in the year 1994. The Gaya 'EU India Cooperation Agreement' provides the legal framework for political, economic and regional cooperation between the two sides.
• Under this agreement, the 'European Union-India Strategic Partnership'was formed between the two sides in 2004, taking forward the cooperation between India and the European Union.
• Within the framework of the Strategic Partnership, various bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements are implemented between India and the EU on issues of common interest, such as sustainable development,economic cooperation and security.
• India and the European Union adopted a roadmap named 'EU India Agenda for Action-2020' in the 2016 summit in order to give the form of a practical action plan to cooperation under the Strategic Partnership.
• The European Union is India's largest trading partner. About 13.7 percent of India's total trade is done with the European Union and India is the 9th largest trading partner country of the European Union. Along with this, the European Union is also the largest invest or in India after Mauritius. It is in this context that India and the European Union have been engaged in a free trade agreement for a long time. are negotiating. But due to lack of consensus on various issues,such as intellectual property rights, tariff rates on automobile sector and alcoholic beverages, agricultural subsidies, free movement of Indian professionals, etc., the Free Trade Agreement is yet to be finalized.
