Human Values
The word that needs to be understood in 'human value' is 'value'. In simple words, what is important has so much value. Values are interpreted in different ways in different regions. For example, what is in demand in the economy has value, what is in appropriate in ethics is worthless and what is beautiful in a aesthetics is valuable.
Values refer to the deepest moral ideals, to achieve which moral rules etc. are made. For example, peace, justice, tolerance, joy, honesty, punctuality, etc. are well-known values. In relation to values, society has an understanding that they are necessary to make social life possible and best.
Social norms, customs, traditions, customs etc.are created to realise the values. For example, respecting elders is a value that has to be expressed by elders.
Social rules have been made to touch the feet etc. The institution of marriage is also a practice aimed at satisfying the sexual and familial needs of human beings in a peaceful manner.
types of values Human values can be mainly divided into two parts -
1. From the point of view of purpose
2. From the point of view
- From the point of view of purpose, human values are 'end' and 'means' from this point of view.are divided into two sub classes. The ends are of value that we always want to have. like peace, Contentment, justice, freedom, equality, knowledge, etc.Means are of value through which we can reach the end values. For example, courage, patience, honesty, humility, responsibility etc.
- From the point of view of point of view, values can also be divided into two sub classes positive and negative.Positive values are values that are valued to have. For example,non-violence, peace, justice etc. Negative values are values whose absence is considered desirable. Such as violence, hatred, injustice etc.
The role of the family in the development of values
- Family is the first step in the development of values, on which it seems easy to reach the goal of humanity. So when, how, how much and what kind of values does the family want to give. This question becomes important.
- The age up to 6 years is the stage when the child is most influenced by the behavior of others, so valuesare determined at the primary level at this age. Even though values develop later on, the level of influence gradually diminishes.Training, encouragement, nation, punishment are some of the tools by which these values can be developed.
- It is also worth noting whether the family is nuclear or joint. It is possible to get the value of being individual from a nuclear family and it is also possible to live with a joint family that if the joint family is'patriarchal', then it gives the value of less respect for wome
- The educational level and economic status of the family also help insetting the background of values.
Role of society in development of values
- Though the real role of society starts with going to school, but before that till 8 years society and family are equal partners in value development.
- Adolescence is a stage when the pressure of society is greatest. In the beginning the development of values is less but as the contact with the society increases, the development also increases progressively.
- Media, becoming self-supervisory, interacting with social groups,co-educational school etc. have influence of ideas like moral norms, social dynamics, stereotypes, change in the society.
- Helps in developing values like patience, tolerance with people of different religions, castes and regions. It should be noted that social impact depends on the degree of interaction. The more social it is, the more the society will have an impact on it.
Role of educational institutions in the development of values
- Educational institutions contribute to value development at two levels, at the level of basic education and at the level of higher education.
- Core values have a greater impact while higher educational institutions are able to develop practical values.
- Personality change is more likely at higher levels but significant change is possible only in a particular asset.
- The sequence of exposure to different ideologies also starts from higher educational institutions, which infuse values. Like understanding class struggle by coming in contact with Marxist thought etc.
- Effect of liberty, equality, non-violence, moral education through various courses. For example, in the course of history, if Gandhiji's stand against injustice or the lesson of truth -non- violence is taught in primary and higher educational institutions, then its effect will definitely be helpful in value development.Similarly, teacher and student group also play an important role inthe development of values.
