Gujral Doctrine
The Gujral Doctrine was an expression of India's foreign policy that was initiated by Shri Inder Kumar Gujral, Minister of External Affairs and later Prime Minister of Deve Gowda. The essence of the Gujral Doctrine, formulated in 1996, is that the largest Being a country, India can voluntarily give some unilateral concessions to the neighboring countries of the sub-continent. In this, emphasis has been given to enhance the mutual relations between the people of different countries.
In this especially the emphasis is on establishing direct relations between the people of India and Pakistan. It has been given so that mutual differences can be easily resolved by creating a positive atmosphere.
The essence of the Gujral principle is that some unilateral concessions should be made to improve relations with neighboring countries and direct relations should be established between the people of India and other countries. In fact, the Gujral theory presents India as a large country that is always ready to help its smaller neighbors by giving them signs of friendship.
