Anglo-Oriental dispute On Education
There were two parties in the General Committee of Public Education. One party was pro-Oriental education and the other was pro-Anglo education. The proponents of oriental education argued that where the study of western science and literature is being encouraged to increase employment opportunities, traditional Indian languages and literature should be encouraged instead.
On the other hand, there was a dispute among the supporters of Anglo-education regarding the medium of instruction and they were divided into two factions. One section was insisting on making English language as the medium of instruction, while the other section was in favor of making Indian (native) languages as the medium of instruction.
