Any foreign policy is made keeping in mind its national interests. It is theefficient conduct of foreign policy that gives a country a place in international politics.The national interests of any nation do not always remain the same, they also keep on changing in thechanged international conditions. Hence, there is a tendency to change foreign policy. As faras the fundamentals are concerned, these grounds remain the same in most cases.The fundamental basis of Indian foreign policy is to establish relations of friendship and cooperationwith all the nations of the world in such a way that there is no disturbance in world peace. In theIndian Constitution, there are some directions of Indian foreign policy, in which in addition to the above fact,instructions have been given for the settlement of mutual disputes by dialogue. It was onlyafter the formation of the Interim Government in September 1946 that the Indian foreign policyDevelopment begins. Pt. Nehru clearly said that independent India would follow an independent policyin the international arena and would not join any group. India will oppose colonialismand racial discrimination in any region of the world and will cooperate fully withcountries supporting world peace. Pt Nehru emphasized on increasing international cooperation. Ifwe critically discuss the foreign policy of independent India, then the followingcharacteristics are reflected in front of us.
