Role of media and social networking sites in internal security challenges
Misuse of Social Media Among the better effects of social media, there are also some side effects which are affecting the landscape of our country in a big way. Now anti-national elements, which are threatening the unity and integrity of the nation, are also using these sites in discriminately for their own benefits. Apart from the traditional means of contact between these elements like E-mail, chat. Now Newer technologies and services are becoming more popular. These elements can now make telephone connections via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and micro blogging sites respectively, and are constantly abreast of each other's movements. These are the use of state-of-the-art message encryption techniques. which are very difficult to read and this becomes a medium of protection for them. Social sites are used by these anti-social elements for the promotion of their activities and through these terrorists are recruited. Elements like Facebook, Twitter They are promoting themselves among the public through social sites. Many organizations have also made their websites on which they keep putting their videos, promotional material continuously, such as terrorists in Bangladesh some time ago. The attackers said to be inspired by a famous religious leader whose videos are available on YouTube, the terrorist killed in Jammu and Kashmir used social media Facebook, WhatsApp to recruit new recruits on the lines of Islamic State, many jihadis We used to post videos. We have seen the direct form of these mediums even in attacks like Mumbai 26/11 incident Northeast people had migrated in large numbers from Karnataka and other parts of the country following in appropriate comments on social media. After this incident, the government also warned Facebook and Google to take appropriate action on this issue and banned many sites. In the past, the activities carried out through the Internet were private, except in a few cases. These included problems such as creating fear among computer users or business establishments, harming people's hardware and software data, stealing confidential data, viruses, phishing and spam. Earlier, through these there was no endangerment of national security by any organized institutional mechanism. Now these anti-national elements are repeatedly misusing websites on the Internet by changing their appearance and name and are using social sites indiscriminately to recruit terrorists. The country is considering having its own instead of foreign social networking sites like China in this regard. In view of the use of social media by radical elements and recruitment of Indian youth in terrorist organisations like Islamic State through cyberspace, the Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Cyber and Social Media Advisor who will help in tracking and policy making of radicals on social media. IS affected people have been apprehended in the country in the last years. Perhaps people sitting in Iraq and Syria were diverting them through the Internet. The NIA and the state police together keep an eye on such youths. It is worth noting that while the misuse of social networking sites by anti-social elements was a matter of concern for internal security, today the problem of data theft through them is also a new challenge. Recently, the issue of data theft of some of its users from social media platforms like Facebook has been a topic of discussion. Thus, the protection of data and privacy and cyber security remains a challenge not only for India but for the whole world today. During a sting operation , it has been revealed that the data of millions of Facebook users was used to benefit Donald Trump in the US presidential election and in the Brexit movement. It is also being linked to the elections held in India. The news of the theft of users' data from Prime Minister Modi's 'app' also remains in the discussion. It is noteworthy that at present there are about 600million people connected to the Internet in India. From social media to e-mail services and messaging applications, the work of dissemination of information is being done on a very large scale. In such a situation, these information or data on one hand can become beneficial for the right purpose like use of Aadhaar in welfare schemes etc. Therefore, such misuse of data underscores the importance of data protection and its protection and as the right to privacy has become a fundamental right, it becomes imperative to make efforts to protect it.
In this direction, the European Union (EU) has made a new law, namely the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), there is no separate law for data protection in India yet. But in the light of the importance of data protection, in order to protect and keep the personal data of citizens safe and secure, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Central Government has recently launched B. N. Sri Krishna The committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Sri Krishna. Its function was to give suggestions on the principles of data protection and on the draft of the Data Protection Bill. Although there is aprovision for data protection nominally in India in the form of appropriate security guidelines under Section 43 A of the Information Technology Act.
