Gandhi ji's Views Regarding The State
At the level of philosophy, Gandhiji is an anarchist thinker and this concept is also related to his ethics. This means that they negate the existence of the state in the ideal state. The state is bad for two reasons The existence of a state means that it will be supported by the force of violence army and police which is contrary to the ideal of non-violence. The state essentially en acts laws that bind all individuals in a common framework. This hinders the spiritual freedom of individuals. In order to reach the state of anarchism, Gandhi does not support violence like Marx, nordoes Peter Kropatkin talk about the prohibition of religion along with the state. His anarchism is consistent with religion and peace. In this respect, he is considered a philosophical anarchist or Pacific anarchist like Leo Tolstoy. The question is, how will the social system run when there is no state? Gandhi claims that such a condition would be that of enlightened anarchy i.e.everyone would live at a high moral level. Since the economic needs of every individual will be satisfied and moral development is sufficient.
there will be no crime. If there are no crimes, there will be no need for police. Even if there is a minor crime. So the moral pressure of the society will be enough to control it. There will be no need for an army either because people of such moral standard want peace, not war. If there is a war, then each person will himself come in the role of soldier for his freedom. There will also be no need for administrative machinery because social fabric will be sufficient to run the system of self-supporting villages.Gandhiji knew that achieving the ideal of anarchism is not easy. The way Marx has guaranteed the arrival of Marxism,Gandhiji does not claim that. They believe that Ramrajya (i.e. anarchism) will surely come but it is not possible to
Till the time Ram Rajya does not come, he has given the formulas of moral polity. The fewer the powers of the state, the better (Thorrow's influence).Support democracy but party less democracy In favor of.The transfer of power should be from bottom to top.Direct elections should be held only at the level of the village panchayat which has legislative, executive and judicial powers. All the elections above it should be in such a way that the office bearers below choose the members of the upper level from themselves. Above the villages there should be talukas, on top of that there should be janapad as, on top of that there should be a state and above that there should be the panchayat of the country. The main function of the National Panchayat or the government of the country should be only that it can keep the country one.Clarifying this idea, Jayaprakash Narayan had said that the state should be like a chain of danger in the train, the attention of the passengers is not always focused on this chain, but they use it in times of crisis.Yes also of public welfare state
