Bangladesh Bhutan The India-Nepal Motor Vehicle Agreement was signed in the year 2015 in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. This agreement was signed for the regulation of the traffic of passenger and freight vehicles between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.
The main objective of this agreement is to connect the above countries by road, to make road transport economically viable and attractive and to make road transport between these countries safe and environmentally friendly.
After the implementation of this agreement. the countries involved in the agreement will allow each other's private and commercial vehicles to play on each other's highways. Once the highways between these four countries are developed, these routes will provide the basis for connecting these countries with ASEAN countries.With the successful implementation of this agreement, the mutual trade of these countries is expected to increase by 60 percent and global trade by 30 percent.It is to be known that the Asian Development Bank is implementing this project as an initiative of the South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation Program- Asia Sub Regional Economic Cooperation Program.Providing technical, advisory and financial support.
Recently Bangladesh, India and Nepal have agreed to draft operational procedures for passenger vehicle movement in the sub-region under the Bangladesh-Bhutan India-Nepal Motor Vehicle Agreement signed in 2015.High-level officials of the three countries involved in the agreement discussed the implementation of the Motor Vehicles Agreement at a meeting in Bangalore in which the representative of the three countries have agreed to expedite the internal clearance procedures for the signing of the Passenger Protocol. The official delegation of Bhutan participated in this meeting as an observer.'
